Robert is our award-winning gelato chef, who first honed his craft in Maui. Inspired by the island’s farms, he began creating gelato with fresh, local produce and premium imported ingredients — a passion that still shapes every scoop today. His dedication to authentic Italian traditions with a California twist has earned him recognition as one of the best in the business.
Mary brings over 15 years of expertise in specialty coffee, crafting everything from rich cappuccinos to smooth cold brew. Together, Robert and Mary ran a beloved gelato and coffee shop in Lahaina, where they won Best Dessert and Best Coffee in Maui year after year.
Now, they’ve brought that same award-winning passion to Los Angeles, serving Hermosa Beach and Marina del Reywith what locals call the best gelato and coffee by the beach.

how capri started
We set out to bring a taste of Capri to California — and our journey began in the spotlight. The very first Capri Gelatowas served at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, where Hollywood stars got their first scoop of our authentic Italian gelato. We returned in 2020 with our brand-new espresso cart, delighting guests once again.
Since then, we’ve catered for world-class clients including Amazon, Snapchat, and Gucci, sharing our award-winning gelato, espresso, and pastries with some of the biggest names in Los Angeles.
As our events business grew, we opened our first Capri Gelato & Coffee Bar in Marina del Rey. Even during the pandemic, the community embraced us — and we quickly became a favorite local spot for gelato, coffee, and pastries by the beach. Today, with cafés in Marina del Rey and Hermosa Beach, we’re proud to be known for some of the best gelato and coffee in Los Angeles.

In June 2022, Capri Gelato & Coffee expanded with our second location in Hermosa Beach. This vibrant, friendly beach town has welcomed us with open arms, and we’re thrilled to share our award-winning gelato, coffee, and pastries with a whole new community. With our original café in Marina del Rey, we’re proud to be serving two of the best beach cities in Los Angeles.
We’re also excited to share that Capri Gelato & Coffee was featured on Food Network’s “Bobby & Sophie on the Coast”. Celebrity chef Bobby Flay and Sophie Flay visited our Marina del Rey shop to sample our famous gelato — giving us national recognition for what locals have long called the best gelato in Los Angeles.
